i don’t generally book too far out, maybe a couple months depending on the time of year. with that being said, i do encourage my clients to plan ahead and avoid waiting until the last minute to schedule a session. this is especially true for busy season which is roughly sept 1st - dec 1st. my schedule books up very quickly for the fall season and is booked through the holidays.
wedding photography should ideally be booked at least 1 year in advance. i’ve had clients book as little as 5-6 months out and some as far as 2 years out.
i only offer holiday mini sessions and occasionally plan other mini sessions for specific times of the year (i.e. spring/mother’s day)
I don’t offer mini sessions that can be purchased regularly throughout the year. this may work well for some photographers, but i have found over the years that it doesn’t work well for me. i really like to connect with my clients and be able to maximize our time together and i think that can be difficult to do during a shortened session. i also tend to deliver larger galleries and find myself delivering the same amount of images for a mini session as i do for a regular session. so for me, offering mini sessions regularly just doesn’t make sense.
portrait sessions generally take 2-3 weeks for delivery, but this can vary based on my editing load at any given time. some sessions are delivered faster (i’ve delivered sessions within 24 hours) and some take longer. during busy season (approx. 9/1-12/1) delivery can take up to 4-5 weeks - again, this varies largely based on my editing load at the time and will not always be this long of a wait. if you need images back faster than standard editing times, please let me know in advance and plan to book your session ahead of time.
wedding galleries take 10-12 weeks for delivery.
i almost always recommend shooting about 60-90 minutes before sunset, which is known as golden hour. this is when the sun’s light is soft and glowy. this time of day doesn’t always work for everyone though, so we would work together to find the best time for you if golden hour isn’t an option.
this can go either way. if a client adamantly wants to shoot at a specific location, i’ll accommodate their request. but honestly, i prefer to choose the location if the client doesn’t have a preference. the reason for this is because taking amazing photos has everything to do with light. as a professional, i tend to favor and know certain locations well because of the lighting. so, if you’re entrusting me with your photos, i want you to trust that i know the best spots with the best light as well. :)
i don’t have a studio or the option to shoot photos indoors, other than the occasional lifestyle session in a client’s home. so, if you happened to be scheduled on a day when the weather isn’t ideal (rain, snow, freezing temps, blistering heat) more than likely, the only option is to reschedule. i always do my absolute best to work with my clients to reschedule their session within a reasonable time frame.
